Biography
Carol Garon Durkee has been an active leader and dedicated volunteer in her community for nearly three decades. Originally from Baton Rouge, she earned a degree in merchandising from Louisiana State University before later pursuing an education degree from the University of Louisiana.
Since moving to The Woodlands in 1997 with her husband, Todd, Carol has been deeply involved in numerous organizations, holding leadership roles that have shaped education, the arts, and community engagement. She served as President of the Junior League of The Woodlands and was honored as their Montgomery County Woman of Distinction. She continues to support the Junior League and will serve as the Sustaining Advisor to the Board.
Carol has made a lasting impact in Conroe ISD, serving on PTA/PTO boards for 22 years—including nine terms as president. She is one of the original organizers of The Woodlands High School Art Trust, now in its 14th year. Her dedication to education has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Patron Influencing Education Award from the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees, the Friends of Education honor twice from the Texas State Teachers Association-Conroe, and the Interfaith Five Who Share–Education Award. She and Todd also served on the Parent Council at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Beyond education, Carol actively volunteers with Interfaith of The Woodlands, the Will Herndon Research fund, the Montgomery County Panhellenic Association, and other local initiatives. She continues her service to Conroe ISD, serving on site-based committees, leading TWHS Art Trust field trips, and participating in bond planning efforts. Outside of her volunteer work, Carol can be found on the tennis court, socializing with friends or traveling with her family.
Carol and Todd have been married for 37 years and have four children. Their three eldest children navigated dyslexia, and their youngest, Scott is on the autism spectrum—fueling Carol’s deep commitment to volunteering in schools and the community. Her dedication has made a difference in the lives of her children: Ross, a petroleum engineer, is a father to Woods with his wife Kyla; Cole, who holds a master’s degree, is a fashion designer in New York City; Madison, a graduate in education, and her husband Jacob are parents to Amelia and Daniel; and Scott will graduate in May from LSU with a degree in French and a minor in Anthropology.
As a supporter of Project Beacon, Carol brings her passion for service, leadership experience, and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the community.
